Introduction

In pursuance of its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, the University Grants Commission, Nepal proposes that every institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Committee (IQAC) as a pre-accreditation quality sustenance measure. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of the institution’s system and work towards realization of the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the overall performance of institutions. For this, during the PRT Visit period, it will channelize all efforts and measures of the institution towards promoting its holistic academic excellence.

Kathmandu Shiksha Campus (KSC) has been serving as a leading institution to provide quality education since its establishment in 2048 B.S. The primary aim of this campus is to support the nation in its higher education by providing need and demand-based educational services as the leading community campus of Nepal. For this, it has started to run multiple streams like Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) and Master in Business Studies (MBS) along with Master in Education programs majoring in different seven subjects. So, KSC has an ultimate vision to develop it as the best institution in the field of higher education to provide quality education in multiple fields of national interests. To fulfil this vision it needs to strive toward developing faculties, infrastructure, academic programs as well as different policies.

Without evaluating the existing practices adopted by the campus, it is not possible to find out the limitations for further improvement. Therefore, KSC needs to audit the achievements performed by different departments and cells for its academic growth.  The purpose of an academic audit is to encourage departments or programs to evaluate their existing practices and faculty activities required to produce, assure, and regularly improve the quality of teaching and learning. An audit further asks how faculty approach educational decision-making and how they organize their work, using the resources available on the campus to them and working collegially to provide quality education in the best interests of the discipline and student learning.

Now, the Campus has autonomy in its financing administration and has been continuously upgrading its infrastructure in order to improve the quality of education. Through its distinctiveness as an academic institution over a long period of time, the authorities of the Campus believes in continuous improvement. Therefore, the authorities in line with one of its mission “to raise the realm of good too great to greater, through continuous quality assessment” have voluntarily started the academic audit since 2020 to look into its strengths and weakness and identify the scope of further improvement.
